Brachioplasty (Arm Lift) in Cleveland, OH
Loose, sagging skin on the upper arms—often referred to as “bat wings”—is a common concern that can result from significant weight loss, natural aging, or genetics. For many, this excess tissue remains resistant to even the most rigorous strength training, making it difficult to feel confident in sleeveless clothing or swimwear.
Brachioplasty, or an Arm Lift, is a transformative procedure performed by Dr. Rodney Green. It is designed to remove redundant skin and stubborn fat, restoring a firmer, more youthful, and toned contour to your arms that reflects your true vitality.

What is Brachioplasty? (The "Bat Wing" Solution)
An arm lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the underarm area to the elbow. Unlike exercise, which builds muscle, brachioplasty is the only effective way to:
- Remove Excess Skin: Eliminate the sagging tissue that hangs when the arms are extended.
- Reduce Stubborn Fat: Target localized fat deposits that obscure muscle definition.
- Tighten the Profile: Smooth and lift the remaining skin for a sleek, athletic appearance.
The Dr. Green Difference: Avoiding the Scar When Possible
One of the primary concerns with a traditional brachioplasty is the resulting scar. Dr. Green’s philosophy is to achieve the most aesthetic result with the least amount of scarring possible.
During your consultation, Dr. Green will determine if you are a candidate for Advanced Liposuction with VASER.
The Alternative
If your skin elasticity is sufficient, Dr. Green may be able to avoid skin excision entirely. By using VASER Ultrasonic technology, he can emulsify fat and promote skin contraction, achieving a beautifully contoured arm through tiny, nearly invisible punctures rather than a long incision.
The Traditional Approach
If there is significant “skin-only” laxity (often seen after massive weight loss), a traditional brachioplasty is the gold standard to ensure the arms look smooth and tight.

The Procedure: What to Expect
Brachioplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.
- The Incision: For a full arm lift, Dr. Green makes an incision along the inner arm. He meticulously follows the natural contours of the arm to ensure the resulting line is as discreet as possible.
- Sculpting: He removes the “crescent” of excess skin and uses liposuction to refine the fat layers.
- Closing: The remaining skin is draped over the new, slimmer contour and sutured in place with precision to minimize tension and scarring.
Who is the Ideal Candidate?
Your surgery is performed on an outpatient basis at Legacy Surgery Center, where Dr. Green serves as the Medical Director, ensuring the highest standards of safety and care.
- Weight Loss Patients: Individuals left with redundant skin after reaching their goal weight.
- Aging Gracefully: Those whose skin has lost elasticity over time, leading to sagging.
- Healthy Non-Smokers: Candidates should be in good overall health and maintain a stable weight.
- Realistic Expectations: Understanding that while scars fade, they are a trade-off for the removal of large amounts of skin.

The Recovery Process: Your Roadmap to Healing
Recovery varies by individual, but following these steps ensures the best aesthetic outcome:
Initial Healing
- Compression: You will wear a specialized arm compression garment. This is vital to reduce swelling, support the healing tissues, and help the skin adhere to its new contour.
- Sensation: It is normal to experience some temporary numbness or changes in skin sensation as the nerves heal.
Activity Levels
- Week 1: Focus on rest. Avoid reaching overhead or lifting anything heavy.
- Weeks 2-4: Most patients return to work (if non-strenuous).
- Week 6+: Dr. Green will typically clear you to resume full exercise and heavy lifting.
Important Note on Your Recovery & Results
Every individual’s body is unique, and as such, recovery timelines and final aesthetic results will vary from patient to patient. Factors such as your natural anatomy, skin elasticity, and how closely you follow post-operative instructions will influence your healing journey.

Arm Lift FAQs
Where exactly will the scar be?
In a traditional brachioplasty, the scar runs from the armpit to the elbow along the inside of the arm. Dr. Green places this very carefully so that it is hidden when your arms are at your side.
Can I just get liposuction instead?
If you have “full” arms but your skin is still elastic, liposuction (especially with VASER) can provide excellent results. However, if your skin is thin and hanging, liposuction alone may leave the skin looking “deflated.” Dr. Green will help you choose the right path during your evaluation.
How long do the results last?
The results of an arm lift are generally long-lasting. As long as you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle, your arms will remain firmer and more contoured for years to come.
Is the procedure painful?
Under general anesthesia, you will feel nothing during surgery. Post-operatively, patients describe a “tight” or “sore” sensation, which is well-managed with the medication Dr. Green provides.
