Refresh Your Gaze and Restore a Vibrant, Rested Appearance

The eyes are often the first feature people notice, but they are also the first to show signs of aging. Over time, the delicate skin of the eyelids stretches, muscles weaken, and fat deposits shift, leading to “heavy” upper lids or prominent “bags” beneath the eyes. This can make you look tired, sad, or older than you feel—and in some cases, drooping upper lids can even interfere with your vision.

Eyelid Surgery, or Blepharoplasty, performed by Dr. Rodney Green, is a highly refined procedure designed to remove excess skin and reposition fat to create a brighter, more open, and rejuvenated look.

Why Consider Blepharoplasty? (Form and Function)

Eyelid surgery addresses several common concerns that affect both your appearance and your quality of life:

  • Upper Eyelids: Removes the “hooding” or excess skin that hides the natural crease of the eye and can make applying makeup difficult.
  • Lower Eyelids: Corrects puffiness, “bags,” and the deep hollows (tear troughs) that create a permanently fatigued look.
  • Improved Vision: If sagging upper lid skin hangs over your eyelashes, a blepharoplasty can clear your superior visual field, making driving and reading easier.
  • Refined Contours: Dr. Green often uses an endoscopic technique to minimize scarring and ensure the results look refreshed, never “surprised” or over-tightened.

The Dr. Green Advantage: Advanced Facial Rejuvenation

Dr. Green looks at the eyes as part of the entire facial structure. He often identifies that “tired eyes” are actually caused by a combination of eyelid laxity and a sagging brow.

  • The Brow Connection: During your consultation, Dr. Green will assess your brow position. If the brow has drifted downward, he may suggest a Brow Lift in conjunction with your eyelid surgery to achieve the most natural, youthful result.
  • Fat Repositioning: Rather than simply removing all fat—which can leave the eyes looking hollow or “skeletal”—Dr. Green often repositions fat to smooth the transition between the lower lid and the cheek.
  • In some cases, drooping of the upper eyelids can be corrected at the same time as blepharoplasty. (ptosis repair)

The Procedure: Precision Artistry

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia at our State Licensed Surgery Center.

  • Upper Blepharoplasty: Dr. Green places incisions within the natural crease of the upper lid. Excess skin and small amounts of fat are removed, and the incision is closed with hair-thin sutures.
  • Lower Blepharoplasty: Incisions are often made inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach), resulting in no visible external scar, or just beneath the lower lash line.
  • Invisible Healing: Because the skin of the eyelid is the thinnest on the body, it heals remarkably well. Once matured, the scars are virtually impossible to detect.

Recovery: What to Expect

  • The First 48 Hours: You will use cool compresses to manage swelling and bruising. Keeping your head elevated, even while sleeping, is crucial during this stage.
  • The First Week: Most bruising and swelling peak by day three and begin to fade rapidly. Dr. Green typically removes any external sutures within 5 to 7 days.
  • Returning to Life: Most patients return to work and social activities within 7 to 10 days.
  • Direct Access: Our team maintains close contact with patients via telephone, and Dr. Green is always available for direct consultation and reassurance.

Important Note on Your Recovery & Results

Eyelid Surgery FAQs

Will eyelid surgery fix my "crows feet"?

Blepharoplasty focuses on the excess skin and fat of the lids. For wrinkles at the outer corners (crows feet), Dr. Green may recommend Botox® in addition to your surgery.

How long do the results last?

The results of an upper blepharoplasty typically last 10–15 years, while a lower blepharoplasty rarely needs to be repeated. Your eyes will continue to age naturally, but they will always look years younger than if you hadn’t had the procedure.

Is it painful?

Most patients report very little pain after eyelid surgery—usually just a sensation of “tightness” or “soreness” that is easily managed with mild medication.

When can I wear contacts or eye makeup again?

You should wait about 2 weeks before wearing contact lenses or applying eye makeup to ensure the incisions are fully closed and protected.

Consultation Checklist: Questions to Ask Dr. Green

  • Is my vision being affected by my upper eyelid skin?
  • Should I combine my eyelid surgery with a brow lift for the best result?
  • Will you be using the transconjunctival approach (no external scar) for my lower lids?
  • Can you show me “Before & After” photos of patients with a similar eye shape to mine?
